Opus Inspection begins vehicle inspection operations in Virginia

 On January 1, 2014, Opus Inspection successfully began vehicle inspection operations under its exclusive contract with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to provide Vehicle Emissions Inspection & Maintenance Program, Program Coordinator Services.  Over 530 Virginia inspection stations are now communicating with Opus Inspection’s data management system, which will process approximately 900,000 inspections per year.

Over the next few months, Opus Inspection will replace the legacy inspection equipment in all of the inspection stations with new NVAS-2 inspection equipment.  Opus Inspection designs and manufactures the new equipment that provides much better reliability and accuracy than the legacy equipment.  Opus Inspection will own the equipment and will be responsible for its maintenance to the highest quality standards for the duration of the contract.

Under the Virginia contract, Opus Inspection will also:

•  Train and support licensed emissions inspectors;

•  Provide support to DEQ licensing and certification functions for inspectors, repair technicians and repair facilities;

•  Provide call center support for inspection stations; and

•  Perform remote inspection data monitoring leveraging Opus Inspection’s proprietary technology to ensure inspection     stations are properly performing inspections.

"The launch of the vehicle inspection operations is a significant milestone in our contract with Virginia," said Lothar Geilen, President of Opus Inspection.  "Soon, we are implementing our latest innovations in data management that will connect the stations to the Department with real-time video and data communications, and live, interactive applications to streamline the DEQ’s oversight responsibilities."

The contract will continue for a period of seven years and may be extended by the DEQ for two additional years.

The order value of the contract is not disclosed due to competitive reasons.
